STORIES / CARD COLLECTING

Organize a card binder

Set up a binder you can browse and update, whether you collect by character, by set number, or by illustration.

Choose one organizing rule

Start with a handful of cards and decide which question your binder should answer. To see how one character changes between illustrations, group by character. To spot gaps in a set, put the cards in number order. An art binder might group scenes by color or setting instead.

Try a sample page before reorganizing the binder. Put a few Pikachu illustrations together and ask whether you could find the one you want without reading every card. If the order is hard to explain, simplify it before filling more pages.

Leave space to grow

For a numbered set, leave a pocket where you know a card is missing. For a character group, leave a few free pockets at the end so the next card has a place. A divider with the group name makes that open space easier to understand later.

When two cards share an illustration, check the number, language, and finish before treating them as duplicates. Keep variants next to one another when the difference is part of what you collect.

Make favorite pages easy to find

Add a short index at the front, such as Pikachu art, pages 1–3, and foil variants, page 4. Use sleeves that fit the pockets without forcing them, and turn pages with clean, dry hands.

When you take a card out for display, leave a note in its pocket or update the index with its shelf location. That small reminder keeps an empty pocket from looking like a missing card.
